Develop exciting projects yourself

with the Raspberry project from aerops

With aerops and a Raspberry Pi, exciting automation and infrastructure projects for airfields and clubs can be implemented – simple, cost-effective, and flexibly expandable.

How does it work?

We provide you with a small installation script for the Raspberry Pi.
Using an Aerops API key, the Raspberry Pi automatically registers with our server and then receives all necessary configurations and data.

This allows you to implement your own projects based on the aerops platform within just a few minutes.

Example project:

Automatically write airband radio communication entries into the aerops flight log

Example Project: Automatically Add Airband Radio Communications to the aeroPS Flight Log

This project is especially valuable for airports operating without a permanent flight operations officer or airfield manager. Forgotten or unrecorded aircraft movements can easily be identified from the recorded radio communications and added to the flight log later.

Getting started is simple: connect an inexpensive USB RTL-SDR receiver to a Raspberry Pi. Our installation script automatically installs all required drivers and software packages before starting the reception and streaming of airband radio communications—no complex configuration required.

Alternatively, a USB sound card can be connected directly to the headphone output of an existing radio installation. This allows you to benefit from the superior reception quality of your current radio equipment while delivering crystal-clear audio to aeroPS.

For advanced users, aeroPS also supports USB2RIG interfaces. These even allow you to control the Push-to-Talk (PTT) function—at your own responsibility—opening the door for custom applications and automation projects.

All received radio transmissions are stored as a chronological timeline in the aeroPS Flight Log, creating a complete history of radio communications and making it easy to identify and recover missing aircraft movements.

Turn Radio Communications into Structured Data with AI

The real power comes from integrating OpenAI. Simply configure your own API key, and aeroPS will automatically transcribe every recorded radio transmission using artificial intelligence.

Call signs, aircraft registrations, taxi clearances, takeoffs, landings, and traffic pattern reports are recognized automatically and linked to the corresponding aircraft movement in the flight log.

The result is a complete communication history for every aircraft movement, including timestamps and the original audio recordings.

Thanks to its open architecture, aeroPS can also be combined with cameras, ADS-B receivers, weather stations, or virtually any other sensor, enabling you to build your own AI-powered automation solutions for airport operations.

A Raspberry Pi, an RTL-SDR receiver, and just a few minutes of installation are all you need—aeroPS takes care of the rest.

Example project:

Control charging stations or power outlets via the aerops app

More and more club members are arriving at the airfield with electric cars and want to charge them. With our Raspberry Pi project, you can build a simple and cost-effective solution yourself.

For example, the following components are required:

  • a Shelly Pro 3EM for power measurement
  • a Shelly Pro relay for enabling the power outlet or wallbox
  • a Raspberry Pi with Aerops integration

This allows you to control 11 kW power outlets or other electrical devices directly via the Aerops app or through remote activation.

Billing included

  • Guests can conveniently pay by credit card based on the consumed kWh
  • Club members can be billed collectively at the end of the month
  • All revenues are automatically assigned to the corresponding customer account in Aerops

Of course, you can also develop your own API routes and custom extensions on the Raspberry Pi — for example, to integrate professional wallboxes or other infrastructure systems.
